What Is an Intraoral Camera?

An intraoral camera is a small, handheld device designed to capture highly detailed images of the teeth, gums, and other oral structures. Unlike traditional methods that relied solely on mirrors and overhead lights, the intraoral camera provides magnified, real-time images displayed on a monitor for both the dentist and patient to view.

This technology significantly enhances the ability to detect issues early, allowing for timely and less invasive treatment options.

How the Intraoral Camera Works

During your examination at Saratoga Dentistry, Dr. Daniel Araldi will use the intraoral camera—a small wand equipped with a high-resolution camera—to carefully scan your mouth. The device captures clear, enlarged images of:

• Gum tissues
• Tooth surfaces
• Dental restorations such as crowns and fillings

These images are displayed immediately on a chairside monitor, allowing for real-time examination and discussion. Dr. Araldi can freeze frames, highlight specific areas of concern, and even print high-resolution images for your records or insurance purposes.

The intraoral camera enables more thorough evaluations of:
